Espresso and Latte Tones: The Season's Hottest Color Trends
By Connie Puckett, Product Club Educator, @conniep_denverstylist

If you haven’t noticed yet, espresso and latte tones are everywhere. These rich, beautiful shades are setting trends, from celebrity styles to the latest runway shows. Designers are incorporating these tones into their collections, and it is clear why—they just look good! Here, we will dive into each shade, exploring what makes them stand out and how to bring these colors to life for your clients.

Espresso: The Ultimate Depth and Drama

This season, espresso is turning heads. This rich, intense brown sits close to black, creating a creamy, bold depth that’s absolutely stunning. When applied thoughtfully, it brings out a moody, sophisticated vibe that works on a range of skin tones. To make the most of this shade, you will need to consider the natural hair level, eye color, and whether to balance warm or cool tones — mastering color theory here is key.

For the best results, I recommend applying espresso on hair levels 6 and below. Layering tones will give you the depth you’re looking for, and investing in high-quality tools, like, JetBlack disposable gloves will save you from staining your hands. When it comes to application, an 8-ounce applicator bottle is perfect. For non-gray coverage, I stick to this method exclusively, as it provides smooth, even distribution. Once applied, the color blending brush ensures even saturation and coverage.

After processing, rinse, style, and revel in those deep, enigmatic shades that reflect light and shadows, adding a mysterious, polished look that’s sure to turn heads.

Latte: Effortlessly Chic and Versatile

Latte tones bring a softer, more effortless look that’s universally flattering. Ranging from a level 5 to 9, latte offers flexibility in tone and level, giving you options that enhance natural shine while maintaining hair health. The charm of latte lies in its blend of creamy, bronzy, and caramel shades, with the beige latte look being a crowd favorite. This neutral-toned blonde, typically on levels 7-9, strikes the perfect balance between warm and cool, delivering a creamy, natural finish.

For slightly darker latte tones, try bronze caramel shades in levels 5-7, which suit olive skin tones with green or brown eyes beautifully. A seamless blend is essential here and feather bristle brushes work wonders for smooth, even application. I love using pop-Up foils for their ease and speed, especially for highlights, and my Premier Collection color mixing bowls keep lightener fresh and workable.

Once you have lifted the hair, switch back to JetBlack disposable gloves, applicator bottles, and the trusty color blending brush for toner application. Process, rinse, and watch the hair transform into a glossy, refined latte shade that’s perfect for the season.

Espresso and Latte are more than just trends. They are colors that bring richness, versatility, and sophistication to any look. Try these techniques, invest in the right tools, and watch your clients leave with shades that truly shine.
